The New Jersey Section of the American Water Resources Association (NJ-AWRA) Winner for "Storm water/Groundwater Management Projects" |
By Brian Friedlich, Kleinfelder
The Ramanessin Phase II Implementation Projects were the culmination several phases that included a diagnostic study, restoration plan, and two phases of implementation projects in the Ramanessin Brook watershed. Funding was provided through a Clean Water Act 319(h) grant awarded by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and administered by the Monmouth County Division of Engineering and Monmouth County Parks System. The restoration projects consisted of bioretention basins, rain gardens, outfall restorations, streambank stabilization, and in-stream restoration structures. The projects were located at the Holmdel High School, Holmdel Park and the Ramanessin Conservation Area #2 (Chase Tract) in Holmdel Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Construction was completed over the course of the summer and fall of 2013 by Dawson Corporation and James R. Lentile, Inc.
Monmouth County Park personnel provided critical day-to-day construction oversight, without which the grant would not have been able to fund as many implementation projects. The Holmdel Township Board of Education became an important partner, enthusiastically supporting the project implementation at Holmdel High School. The Holmdel Township Environmental Commission also partnered on and supported the project. The design team consisted of Kleinfelder (formerly Omni Environmental LLC) and AECOM.
