Joint Meeting - October 29
Lower Assunpink Creek
Environmental Restoration Project
Speaker: Matthew Brener, P.E., BRS Inc.
Lower Assunpink Creek Environmental Restoration Project is a work of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) that will "daylight" a 500-foot section of the Assunpink Creek that is currently contained within a concrete box culvert between S. Broad Street and S. Warren Street in downtown Trenton, immediately adjacent to the Capital Place One Plaza. The project site is approximately 1,000 feet (2 city blocks) upstream from the mouth of the Assunpink Creek at the Delaware River and is located on land owned by the City of Trenton. The City is working closely with USACE as the project’s Non-Federal Sponsor, providing funding and project management services. The purpose of the project is to remove the failed covering of the concrete culvert thereby curing an existing public safety hazard and allowing the stream to be exposed to natural sunlight. This open channel design will provide a significant new public amenity in downtown Trenton, provide historical and educational opportunities to the Trenton community, and significantly improve the environmental conditions of the Lower Assunpink Creek. It is anticipated that the project will be completed by the summer of 2017.
The presentation is approved for 1 PDH credit for NJ PE attendees.
