Overview
The Middlesex County Parks Pin Oak Forest Wetland Enhancement and Stream Restoration Project, submitted by GreenTrust Alliance, Inc, was recognized for excellence in Ecological Restoration. As part of the multi-site wetland restoration project, GreenTrust Alliance, GreenVest, and Princeton Hydro secure $3.9 million dollars of funding from the New Jersey Freshwater Wetland In-Lieu Fee program. The restoration project converted 29 acres of degraded freshwater wetlands, 0.33 acres of disturbed uplands dominated by invasive species, and 1,108 linear feet of degraded or channelized streams into a species-rich and highly functional headwater wetland complex. The project was completed in May 2017 with monitoring continuing through 2021. The Pin Oak forest Wetland Enhancement & Stream Restoration Project was awarded NJ-AWRA's Excellence in Waster Resources Management Award in 2018.
